Religion and International Relations: The Christian Century's Protestant Critique of the U.S. Embrace of Fascist Spain.
- Authors
Shaffer, Robert
- Abstract
The article examines the Protestant critique of the U.S. embrace of fascist Spain by "The Christian Century," a Protestant magazine, in the mid-20th century. It examines the reasons behind the magazine's criticism of Francisco Franco's fascism, and the magazine's insistence that the U.S. should end support for Franco's Spain because its fascist regime denied religious freedom to Protestants. Also discussed is the connection between domestic issues and U.S. support for Spain.
