- Abstract
This study is an exploration of job satisfaction and intention to quit among certified rehabilitation counselors working in various employment settings in 16 states that comprise the United States Census Bureau's Southern region. With a study sample of over 3600 individuals and a response rate of 50%, the study results make a compelling statement that the profession of rehabilitation counseling is experiencing positive gains in its workforce, as most counselors employed find their work meaningful and typically have no intentions to quit in the near future. However, there remain ongoing challenges related to recruitment of adequate rehabilitation counseling personnel and retention at levels high enough to meet system demands. More work is needed to expand opportunities for promotion of rehabilitation counseling personnel and to obtain more competitive salaries.
