- Abstract
In distribution systems, protection schemes are highly important. Recently, load shedding (LSH) is attracting more attention in stability margin enhancement of voltage and frequency in microgrids. This paper introduces a regionalization-based multilevel technique (RMLT) via a combination of frequency and voltage LSH in inverter-based autonomous AC distribution systems. The aim is to simultaneously restore voltage and frequency to their desired ranges in the event of severe disturbances and also in emergency conditions. In the RMLT, to determine the proper load to be shed and to enable LSH in the system operation mode (ie, real-time mode) following each pernicious event, it is proposed that a recurrent online study be performed on network topology and the sensitivity of voltage to real power. In this case, the quick achievement of accurate results implies the regionalization of the system into several zones from the point of view of network topology and voltage and the assignment of an agent to each zone. The RMLT is simulated on a standard IEEE 37-bus distribution system, and the results obtained confirmed the appreciable increase in the security margin of voltage and frequency and the decrease in the probability of system tripping.
