- Abstract
This Paper aims to the analysis of the deification ritual of the Roman emperor, held from the death of Julius Caesar, considering it a strategy which legitimated, and perhaps guaranteed, the longevity of the imperial system. It is a bibliographical research, which uses some reference from History and Religious Studies. The flexibility of the Romans relationship with the holy allowed the emperor's sacralization ritual, the Funus Imperatorum. In this sense, politics and religion in Rome mixed in a theater of power which allowed the reorganization of the social roles (at the end of the Republic) and the reinforcement of social cohesion (in the Empire of the Caesars).
