The article discusses the Enlightenment notion of encyclopedia. It is stated that Ephraim Chambers is one of the first encyclopedists of the Enlightenment. The two major works by Chambers of encyclopedia, including the "Encyclopédie," which came out in 1751 and has 17 volumes and the "Encyclopaedia Britannica," which came out in 1768 with three volumes, are also discussed.
