- Abstract
The article examines the innate and adaptive immune systems in chronic and aggressive periodontitis. It is considered difficult to identify differences in the immunopathology of both diseases as the differences reflect a variation in the degree of severity. The initial immune response in chronic periodontitis occurs after the colonization of the gingival sulcus. When it comes to aggressive periodontitis, there is little evidence that it follows the typical cyclical course of the chronic one.
