Modelli francesi per Macerata? Cicli di pitture epiche nelle gallerie d'oltralpe.

- Abstract
This essay discusses possible French models for the gallery of Palazzo Buonaccorsi in Macerata, beginning with the hypothesis, first proposed by Stefano Pierguidi, that the Galerie La Vrillière in Paris served as a point of departure for Michelangelo Ricciolini and Raimondo Buonaccorsi in the project for the Galleria dell'Eneide. In reexamining the sources, I propose instead that another example served as the model for this work - the Galerie d'Énee of the Palais-Royal, which was decorated by Antoine Coypel with stories from Virgil. Several factors indicate that knowledge of this gallery was transmitted by Paolo de Matteis, whose period in Paris signaled an important turn in the genesis of the Macerata project.
