- Abstract
Japan and Germany are driving the hydrogen economy forward to promote clean energy and achieve climate goals. Japan has already published a national hydrogen strategy and plans to reduce its CO2 emissions by 46 percent by 2030 and be climate neutral by 2050. Germany aims to end its dependence on fossil fuels and is focusing on green hydrogen, which will be imported from sun- and wind-rich regions. Both countries are working on partnerships to produce green hydrogen in regions favored by the sun. Germany is relying on Australia and partnerships with West and South Africa, while Japan has established a maritime hydrogen supply chain with Brunei and Australia.
