- Abstract
The research results of scientists from the University of Konstanz show that the willingness of bees to sting is not constant, but based on an alarm pheromone. There are two threshold values for the pheromone concentration at which bees start or stop stinging. Environmental factors also influence the evolution of pheromone-based communication during defense. Researchers from the University of Bochum have found that a protein at the injured site of a nerve inhibits fiber growth. This protein usually attracts regenerating fibers but holds them at the site of injury. The research results could provide new approaches for medications. Researchers from Mülheim have discovered that the water-oxidizing catalyst in photosynthesis exists in the form of two isomers, which could lead to different reaction pathways and contribute to efficiency and selectivity.
