- Abstract
The animal is an important element for the Central Asian nomadic society, which lives intertwined with nature. The animals they encounter in their daily lives and have the opportunity to observe appear as an allegorical expression tool in many works of art. This style, which is reflected in the works of art, has been called "Animal Style". The depictions of animals engraved on various works of art, from everyday use items to primitive weapons, bear the traces of the culture and belief principles of Central Asian society. In this direction, the experience of the Central Asian society in its daily life and the relationship established between animals turned into a calendar element over time and they developed the Turkish Calendar with Twelve Animals. The Turkish Calendar with Twelve-Animals is a system consisting of twelve-year cycles in which each year is referred to by the name of an animal. In this study, the Iconography of the animal figures in the stone decoration of Erzurum Emir Saltuk Mausoleum, Kayseri Karatay Khan, Sivas Gok Madrasah and Nigde Sungurbey Mosque and associated with the Turkish Calendar with Twelve Animals is emphasized. Through the structures, the Central Asian influence will be discussed by introducing the animals that are the symbol of the year in the Turkish Calendar with Twelve Animals.
