- Abstract
This article discusses the occurrence of hepatic and splenic lipomas in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Lipomas are benign neoplasms formed by adipocytes and are more commonly found in mammals and humans. However, lipomas have also been reported in fish, although they are less common. The study found whitish nodular lesions in the liver and spleen of some Nile tilapia specimens, which were identified as lipomas through histological analysis. The authors suggest that further research is needed to understand the etiology of these lipomas, potentially using zebrafish as a model.
