- Abstract
The percentage of U.S. Households owning stock, either inside or outside of retirement plans, has increased dramatically in the past decade. This paper examines the division of stock ownership between retirement plans and direct ownership for households with at least one employed member age 18 to 62 years in 199H. The data show that those households with defined contribution (DC) retirement plans have a higher proportion of their total financial assets in stock than households without DC pensions.
