- Abstract
A recent study has found that Rhododendron subarcticum leaves, also known as Labrador tea, may have potential as a treatment for drug-resistant strains of malaria. The leaves have long been used by indigenous communities in Canada to treat various ailments. Although there is a lack of studies on the therapeutic properties of this specific species, related species have shown medicinal properties. The study found that essential oils from R. subarcticum leaves had notable inhibitory activity against antibiotic-resistant strains of the malaria parasite, and identified a compound called ascaridole as a potential target for the development of new anti-malarial drugs.
