- Abstract
The article discusses a study of online communities of "X-Philes," or fans of the television program "The X-Files" created by Chris Carter. The study's framing of fan cultures such as X-Philes as subcultures of wider consumption patterns is examined, and an overview of the communities' values of individualism and faith is presented. The study's data collection methodology and approach to issues of informed consent are described, and the relationship between fan culture and consumer behavior is commented on.
