- Abstract
The Material and Sterilization Center (MSC) is an essential and peculiar environment destined to the processing of health products in health services. The research aimed to describe the perception of the nursing team working in the MSC about the work process performed and its implication for the patient's health. It is justified because there are few studies with more than 10 years of publication on the recognition of this center as one of the sectors that promote patient safety. This is a cross-sectional study with exploratory-descriptive character and quantitative approach carried out with 35 nursing professionals in the MSC. 77.1% of interviewees were female, 51.4% had up to 5 years of experience in the sector, 97.1% related the processing of health articles with patient safety and 48.6% of the professionals did not observe recognition by professionals from other sectors about the importance of the work developed in the MSC. Thus, nursing professionals working in this center recognize that the assistance provided indirectly is essential to guarantee patient safety through the adequate processing of medical-hospital items.
