- Abstract
The present paper is aimed to experimentally investigate the influence of a plastic deformation on both yield strength and torsional fatigue life of a CuZn40Pb2 leaded brass alloy and a 6082‐T6 aluminum alloy. Two types of preloading are considered, that is, (i) a cyclic torsion (cyclic preloading) and (ii) a monotonically increasing tension (static preloading). More precisely, for each of the above alloys, different both numbers of loading cycles and maximum values of the static preloading are considered. Moreover, an in‐depth fracture surface analysis on the failed specimens is performed, and fracture mechanisms at different scale lengths summarized.
