- Abstract
Lattice in research on "Mental health and social environment of the psychiatric patient in Ecuador", a question arises regarding the level of trust in drugs as the principal way of treatment and cure address for individuals with mental disorder. Trust or recurrent resource in familiar speech, of professionals from the called "mental health", even from psychologists, making from the clinical word or psychological labor, an auxiliary function, not an interdisciplinary work. There is a question about if it's the so-called "psychiatric power" from which Foucault complains, or the pharmacist power that seems to be verified in a current policy of de-internalization of the psychiatric patient and its formal nomination as mental disabled. Following the results of this mixed methodology research, this paper tries to present and hold what appears to be the source of immediate effects, drugs, and how it attenuates the symptom, read as an irremovable sign, but gives the impression of being essential; back to where the hospital prestige and the familiar limited understanding of the discomfort from the affected individual, has no other way. It also points out a clear parallelism of being productive and the well-being of conditioned individuals with mental affections. Made in the cities of Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca, the research shows particular attempts, sometimes well undertaken, of social rehabilitation in a setting with lack of programs and policies that handle individuals with mental disorders.
