WHERE HAVE ALL THE VISITORS GONE?
- Abstract
The article reports on the impact of the dropping of the foreign visitors to the rapid growth in the tourism sector in Vietnam. As stated, the decline in tourism came after the massive expansion in the communist's country's luxury hotel industry and the announcement of plans for resorts costing hundreds of millions of dollars. Due to the financial crisis, arrivals of the hotels in November 2008 has dropped to 279,000 from 411,000 in April. However, the tourism sector needs an encouragement and the government has promised to fund the advertising drive including premier spots on global television channels in BBC and CNN.
