- Title
COLORADO OBSIDIAN? PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF A STATEWIDE DATABASE OF TRACE ELEMENT ANALYSIS.
- Abstract
The article presents information on obsidian provenance studies for Colorado. The increasing use of trace element analysis is noted, and data which chemically distinguishes 19 separate sources is presented. This research indicates a wide range of trade for the substance, as obsidian derived from seven other states has been found in Colorado. It is observed that patterns of behavior could be derived from such information. Some common misconceptions about the use of obsidian by Native Americans in Colorado are also addressed.
