- Abstract
This article discusses the meaning of tattoos worn by criminals of the 19th century, as studied by criminologists Cesare Lombroso of Italy and Francisco Martínez Baca of Mexico. The author comments on the cultural significance as well as the racial elements incorporated into the tattoos. A broader examination of European and Latin American criminology is also presented.
