- Abstract
Objectives: Our aim was to compare comorbid psychiatric disorders, perceived social support and quality of life between HD and PD patient groups. Method: 40 HD and 40 PD patients were included in this study. Sociodemographic data was recorded and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Short Form 36, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, PRIME-MD and Mini Mental State Examination were applied. SPSS 11.5 for Windows was used for statistical analysis. Results: According to PRIME-MD any kind of disorder and depressive disorder rate was significantly higher in HD group. Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression scores and anxiety and depression scores of Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale were higher in HD patients. Mental health average scores determined by Short Form-36 in HD patients were significantly lower than PD patients. Total, family and special person support scores were higher in PD group. Mini Mental State Examination language scores were higher in PD group. Conclusion: HD patients have a higher risk for psychiatric disorders than PD patients due to problems caused by treatment method. These patients should be monitored carefully by this regard and consultation-liason services for dialysis units should be increased.
