- Abstract
The article deals with photographs of female models by Edward Linley Sambourne, especially nudes. It offers an overview of the status of female models in the final decades of the 19th century. It discusses the efforts of Sambourne to record the names and addresses of professional female models in his diaries. Information is presented on the photographs taken by Sambourne in the studio of Edwin Austin Abbey at Bedford Gardens in England. Some of the female models hired by Sambourne include Kate Manning, Harriet Pettigrew and Lily Pettigrew. It relates the membership of Sambourne with the Camera Club.
