The article discusses the political satire of Yiddish-speaking Jewish performers Shimen Dzigan and Yisroel Shumacher. The author focuses on Dzigan and Shumacher's use of Yiddish and the influence of Yiddish author Sholem Aleichem and expressionist theatre on their work. Specific topics addressed include the history of Jewish humor, Jews in Dzigan and Shumacher's hometown of Łódź, Poland, and how moving to Israel in 1950 affected their humor.
