This article interprets Jackson Campbell Boswell's "Samson's Bosom Snake." It offers an assortment of Renaissance references to a proverbial expression. It also gives three classical references: Aesop, Virgil, and the historical suicide of Cleopatra. By omitting a fourth classical analogy, and that a major one, the author believes that the story ends up with the wrong emphasis.
