- Abstract
Raised immunoglobulin (Ig) M antibodies indicated recent infection by Puumala virus (PUUV). Puumala virus (a hantavirus) disease is a poorly known infectious disease that may present as a haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome or as a cardiopulmonary syndrome, sometimes leading to death. A 26-year-old woodsman presented with fever, dyspnoea and mild leucocytosis (white blood cell count 9.51 × 10 SP 9 sp /l, lymphocytes 4.32 × 10 SP 9 sp /l) flagged by the automated counter (Sysmex XN-9000) for large reactive lymphocytes (top left, white arrow).
