- Abstract
The article discusses the misperceptions of consumers regarding the selection of service plan that is shown in a unique data set of subscriber-level which include usage information and monthly billing for 3,730 cell phone users. It states that consumer welfare and market efficiency are further decreased by early termination fees (ETF) enforced lock-in feature and the complicated contract. Moreover, there are four firms that control the market for handsets including Motorola, Nokia and Samsung.
