- Abstract
A biography of former South Dakota governor Coe Isaac Crawford is presented. He was born in Volney, Iowa on January 14, 1858 and studied law at the University of Iowa. After moving to Dakota Territory he became a member of the last territorial and first state legislatures, and later served as the state's attorney general. In 1906 he became the state's first Progressive governor. In 1909 he ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate, where he served one term. A portrait of Crawford is also presented.
