- Abstract
The article discusses the 1836 Battle of San Jacinto, Texas, which was part of the Texas Revolution, and examines several maps of the battlefield which were drawn by various individuals between 1836 and 1855. It provides an image of several maps drawn by Texas army soldiers including Horace P. Chamberlain and Archibald S. Lewis and lawyer Charles Edwards Lester as well as narratives of the battle by soldiers and Texas settlers. It also chronicles efforts by several groups including the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), the San Jacinto Museum of History Association, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to preserve the battlefield.
