The Phantom of the Opera and the Performance of Cinema.
- Authors
Biancorosso, Giorgio
- Abstract
The article examines the relationship between the success of Gaston Leroux's novel "Phantom of the Opera" on the big screen and its appeal as a template for the exploration of the vast possibilities of the cinematic medium. It interprets the screen adaptations of the novel as the record of textual decisions and technical interventions reformulated as a performance through the imaginative perception of the audience. It also examines the play between a script and its realization on the stage.
