The taxonomy, distribution and cultivation requirements of Gasteria baylissiana Rauh (Aloaceae), a rare miniature succulent from the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, are discussed. Notes on the history and conservation status of this popular collector's item are included and a full description of the species is provided, accompanied by a water-colour illustration.
