KENYA: Brutal Press Raid.
- Abstract
The article reports on the brutal press raid conducted by masked gunmen at the headquarters of "The Standard," one of the oldest newspaper, on March 2, 2006 in Kenya. There were more than 30 men who raided the headquarters, burnt the newspapers, and taken the computer and transmission equipment. Ezekiel Mutua, secretary general of the Kenya Union of Journalists, commented that the raid was one of the sinister acts seen since independence and was designed to create fear among journalists.
