- Abstract
In order to solve the problems with ship safety caused by waves and current in the harbor basin, the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) model was used to simulate wave attenuation and potential dangerous zones with the scenarios of the layouts of the five different positions of the entrance of width of 20 m, 40 m and 60 m respectively and approach regular waves of 1 m, 2 m and 4 m in height separately. The results of the modeling show that when the entrance is so located that a largest angel between the line linking the dock and the entrance and the alignment line of the dock is formed, the wave attenuation rate will become the largest, which means a suitable location of the entrance. For the suitable entrance position determined, it is found that the narrower the entrance is, more circulation areas are found formed in the harbor, which is not favorable for ships safety and also limits the navigation capacity to a lower level. It is found that entrance width of 40 m is able to ensure both the ship inbound rate and the safety inside the harbor. With these parameters determined, a reasonable inbound and outbound route is proposed.
