- Title
Libya: Amnesty Derna Floods Report.
- Abstract
Amnesty International has criticized the Libyan authorities for their failure to investigate the responsibility of military and political actors in the catastrophic floods in Derna. The floods, which occurred in September 2023, resulted in thousands of deaths, missing persons, and displaced individuals. The report also highlights the mismanagement of the situation by rival authorities and the discriminatory exclusion of certain groups from compensation. Additionally, the Libyan Arab Armed Forces and affiliated armed groups have cracked down on individuals who criticized the authorities' response to the crisis.
