According to the corporate entity solely licensed to operate Nigeria's petroleum industry, NNPC Limited, Nigeria spent $10bn on fuel subsidies in 2022 representing about 24% of its total budget. B The president inaugurates a huge potentially game-changing oil refinery. b On May 22nd the outgoing president, Muhammadu Buhari, commissioned a US$19bn single-train oil refinery built by Africa's richest person and touted by the local media as the largest of its kind in the world.
