- Abstract
The article reviews Senate Bill 19-181, or Protect Public Welfare Oil and Gas Operations, and the role of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) in regulating the industry. It analyzes changes to the missions and priorities of the COGCC to protect public health and environmental, as well as shortcomings of COGCC rules. Steps and provisions of the state legislature to improve industry regulation and ensure its accountability in light of the climate crisis are suggested.
