- Abstract
The article discusses the results of an opinion survey of emergency department healthcare staff in Great Britain who treat patients who self-harm. In the survey by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCP), ED staff consistently reported that their training and education in the treatment of patients with mental health needs including those who self-harm was inadequate. In highlighting the complexity of working with people who self-harm, psychotherapist Jack Nathan suggested that they should be treated with the same care as any patient.
