- Abstract
As of the 2010-2011 academic year, the Faculty of Central European Studies at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra has annually examined the development of swimming skills and general physical stamina of freshmen pedagogy students over the course of their first semester. In the past five academic years, 97 such students have been tested with an aim to study the impact of an educational development program composed primarily of aquatic exercises. The results of this analysis have shown significant development of basic swimming skills (p < 0.05), as well as breaststroke and backstroke techniques over a distance of 25m (p < 0.001). The conditional and coordination levels of the group were significantly improved in nearly every test (p < 0.05) excepting the static vestibular system. Assessments performed at the beginning and close of the period revealed many significant relationships between body measurements, basic swimming skills, and physical abilities (p < 0.05).
