- Abstract
SUBJECT: Reconstruction of complex thoracic defects in oncologic patients. INTRODUCTION: Reconstruction of the chest-wall after large resections in oncologic patients, represents a challenging problem for the plastic surgeon. Some of the cases require elaborated and sophisticated reconstructive techniques. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We use omental flap coverage in a group of selected patients with recurrent oncologic pathology, witch need for reconstruction, large amount of well vascularized tissue. The flaps were covered primary with split-thickness skin grafts. DISCUSSIONS: We provided in all patients adequate coverage of the entire defects with no complications. The flaps bring highly vascularized tissue with rich lymphatic supply to the affected areas. Donor site morbidity was minimal. CONCLUSION: The ometal flap provide a safe and reliable solution for reconstruction of difficult thoracic defects, when other flaps are unavailable or inadequate.
