- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: EBV is a DNA virus and leucocytoclastic vasculitis is a rare complication of EBV infection. We report a boy with leucocytoclastic vasculitis associated with EBV infection. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A 5 years-old boy was presented with fever, sore throat and maculopapular rash not blanch with pressure. Medical history shwed that she was on amoxicilline treatment for tonsillitis for 4 days. The amoxicilline was stopped in case drug-induced rash. However, the rash was spread through the body. Laboratory studies revealed ANT▢-VCA Ig M 2+, ANT▢ EBNA-1 Ig M negative, ANT▢-EA-D IgG 3+ in according with acute EBV infection. (Picture 1). RESULTS: She was administered intravenously immunoglobuline (IVIG) for 5 days. The rash was disappeared on the 6th day of treatment. CONCLUSION: Vasculitis should be considered as a rare complication of EBV infection in children and IVIG treatment is quite effective treatment in this vasculitis.
