- Abstract
This article discusses the assessment of urate excretion in patients with immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), a type of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study found that single-nephron urate excretion was significantly increased in patients with advanced CKD stages, despite compensatory excretion from the intestinal tract. This suggests that urate dynamics in the tubulointerstitium may play a role in the progression of IgAN. The authors suggest that evaluating single-nephron excretion of certain molecules could be a useful tool in understanding the pathophysiology of kidney diseases.
