- Abstract
Based upon a review of the relevant literature, it was hypothesized that junior high school teachers scoring high internal on a measure of internal-external control (I-E) would more likely be rated as high in overall teaching competence by observers asked to evaluate their teaching competence. Data gathered from a group of thirty teachers teaching in the same school and four evaluators (the principal, vice-principal, and two counselors) were used to test this hypothesis. Statistically, the data were analyzed by means of the chi square test with Yate's correction and Yule's Q. After controlling for several possible spurious influences, the predicted relationship was strongly confirmed. The implications of the findings are discussed.
