Business, Accounting, Law, and Medicine.

- Abstract
A dual convergence is under way in America, with business looking more like the professions, as evidenced by the Texas Gulf Sulphur and BarChris cases. The professional motto credat emptor--let the buyer trust--and a consequent circumscription of self-interest attach to business. Law and medicine, however, face the social control devices of business: market competition and government regulation. The Continental Vending decision, which focuses on accountants, implies, further, that professionals cannot decide privately the parameters of their practice.
