- Abstract
The study "Rumours of Revolt" by Rosanne M. Baars examines the credibility of news during the Huguenot Wars in France and the Spanish-Dutch War. The author uses diaries and chronicles from the 16th century to analyze the perception of contemporaries. She finds that there were already transregional news flows in the 16th century and that recipients developed a critical media literacy. The study also shows that current news was available not only in cities but also in rural areas. Although the study does not consider some important research, it is worth reading.
