- Abstract
A recent article in the Netherlands Heart Journal discussed the career prospects for young cardiologists in the Netherlands. The article highlighted the low unemployment rates but also noted the increased and uncertain time it takes for young cardiologists to secure permanent positions. A new survey conducted among 329 young cardiologists revealed that while the unemployment rate remains low, temporary positions are still common. These temporary positions can cause financial and geographical insecurity for young cardiologists and may lead to decreased job satisfaction and increased risk of burnout. The authors hope that the trend towards more permanent positions continues to improve job satisfaction and attract more medical students and residents to pursue cardiology training.
