"Motor City Green: A Century of Landscapes and Environmentalism in Detroit" by Joseph Stanhope Cialdella explores the history of green landscapes and environmentalism in Detroit from the late 1800s to the early 2000s. The book highlights the personal and public efforts made by Detroiters to create and maintain gardens and green spaces in the rapidly growing city. It also discusses the role of urban agriculture in urban environmentalism and the strategies pursued by Black Detroiters to have gardens and green space. The book concludes with a chapter on the importance of nature, agriculture, and community in Detroit's revitalization efforts.
