- Abstract
Background: Ceramics are the most widely used materials in dentistry for fixed replacement of missing teeth. Though, strong and esthetic the material might be, there may be fractures or chipping of the material due to various reasons. . In these situations, porcelain repair systems (PRS) have a major role that can avoid replacement of the affected prosthesis and allow repair of it. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the awareness and application of PRS in dental clinics in Chennai, through a questionnaire-based survey. Methodology: A self-structured questionnaire was designed consisting of 18 questions regarding various impression techniques used for removable partial denture, and dentists were also asked about the most common technique used by them. The survey was made on Google forms and distributed to dentists through electronic media. Result: The response rate was 59 out of the 60 dentists that were asked to answer. From the gathered data, it is seen that only 54% of dentists were aware of the PRS and 46% are unaware. 56% of dentists opted to replace the fractured prosthesis, while only 44% showed willingness to repair the damaged porcelain. Conclusion: To conclude the survey, not many practitioners in Chennai are aware of PRS and their uses.
