- Title
FAULKNER'S INDIANS, OR THE POETICS OF CANNIBALISM.
- Authors
Mallios, Peter Lancelot
- Abstract
The article focuses on the trope of cannibalism in the short story "Red Leaves," by William Faulkner. According to the author, cannibalism appears both in the Indian society where the community leaders consider what to do with the slaves, and between the runaway slave and the cottonmouth snake. The author addresses the question of historical accuracy by commenting on cannibalism as a metaphor in the world of Faulkner's Indians. A brief thematic overview of "Red Leaves," is provided.
