- Abstract
This paper shares the reflections derived from the conceptual theoretical reviews articulated with the sensitivity developed by the authors by being involved in a study on the perception of teaching practice by teachers and students in training belonging to a graduate program oriented secondary education offered in a Dominican higher education institution. The text produced is based on some premises on teacher professionalization, then the conceptualization that prevails over the practice component, its historical evolution, the main challenges and tensions it faces, the most recent trends and perspectives offered by international literature, is exposed. Conclude with some recommendations for improvement. It is recognized that teaching practice plays an essential role in the initial training of future education professionals, but so that it can fulfill its strategic role in the context of the fundamental role that teachers play in the educational quality of a country, it must meet certain conditions and quality indicators, some of which are analyzed in this text.
