- Title
Call to action: Accrediting body for graduate veterinary medical education.
- Authors
Sykes, Jane E.
- Abstract
The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) has requested the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to explore the formation of an accreditation body for veterinary graduate clinical education. The proposed body, called the Accreditation Council for Graduate Veterinary Medical Education (ACGVME), would ensure consistency and oversight in training programs. The ACVIM, along with other organizations, has identified several issues in veterinary specialty medicine, including a lack of oversight, a crisis in intern and resident wellbeing, a lack of diversity, a shortage of veterinary specialists, and a mismatch between available graduates and residency programs. The ACVIM hopes that the AVMA will engage stakeholders to discuss the formation and activities of the ACGVME.
