Chief symptoms A 61-year-old man with a history of hypertension, coronary artery disease (CAD) with prior stent placement, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) presented with a 4-month history of recurrent pleural effusions and progressive diffuse edema. The patient was diagnosed as having YNS given the discoloration of his nails, history of slow growth, frequent sinus infections, recurrent exudative pleural effusions, chronic cough, and positive Stemmer's sign. Common causes of recurrent pleural effusions The differential diagnosis for the most common causes of recurrent pleural effusions includes congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, nephrotic syndrome, and protein losing enteropathies.
